GTA 6 Online: 32 players, revealed in court

Here is the irony of the whole affair: after years of saying nothing about GTA 6's online mode, Rockstar gave itself away in court documents.

What the documents say

As part of an employment tribunal case pitting Rockstar North against former staff, the filings submitted by Rockstar and Take-Two reference exchanges held on a union Discord about "32-player online formats", described as strictly confidential at the time.

In other words: to prove sensitive information had leaked, Rockstar had to admit that information existed. 32 players per session, where GTA Online caps out at 30.

The official line

Asked about it, Rockstar calls GTA 6's online mode a "closely guarded secret". No name, no structure, no date. The studio has dodged the subject consistently so far, and a procedural slip is not about to change its messaging.

The real story: it will not be there at launch

This is the point plenty of people have not absorbed. On November 19, 2026, GTA 6 ships single-player only. No online mode on day one.

That breaks with GTA 5, whose Online arrived two weeks after release, on October 1, 2013. Here the gap will be far wider: Twitch's CEO, after talking with Rockstar, expects an arrival sometime in 2027.

Why it matters for your purchase

A good chunk of the €99.99 Ultimate edition bonuses target the online side. Paying €20 more today for content you can use in a year is a trade-off to make with your eyes open — especially since the upgrade from Standard stays available later, at the same price.

What is still unknown

• The name of the mode and its structure.
• Whether there will be crossplay — never offered on GTA Online, despite market pressure that has become hard to ignore.
• Any progression transfer from GTA Online: nothing official.
• The business model, beyond optional microtransactions.
