Extended Look: 15 reveals that change GTA 6
27 minutes of gameplay, an 80-hour campaign, a 6-star wanted level, 600,000 animations: what the GTA 6 Extended Look really showed.
Rockstar dropped 27 minutes of gameplay captured entirely on PS5, in partnership with Netflix. Not a frame-perfect trailer edit: actual play, with commentary and systems explained. Here is what matters.
1. A campaign of roughly 80 hours
Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, puts 80 hours on his own full playthrough. For comparison, GTA 5's main story runs around 31 hours. That is a change of scale, not a marginal bump.
2. A chapter-based structure
Forget the mission-after-mission chain: GTA 6 progresses in chapters, like Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar also says open-world encounters tie into the main thread far more naturally — the line between side content and story is deliberately blurred.
3. The 6-star wanted level is back
The wanted level goes back up to 6 stars, against 5 in GTA 5. A symbolic detail for some, a real tension threshold for anyone who lived through the San Andreas chases.
4. 600,000 NPC animations
The number stings: more than 600,000 animations for non-player characters, against roughly 55,000 in GTA 5. The kind of figure you cannot see in a screenshot but that changes everything in play.
5. A "criminal profile" replaces Honor
No more binary morality slider. The way you play builds a criminal profile that shapes how NPCs react and bends the way the story unfolds. In the demo, Jason pets a dog and triggers an angel icon — the system is taking notes.
6. Choices that carry weight
Constant decisions, from the trivial detail to the narrative tipping point. And between Jason and Lucia, the relationship can turn into romance… or stay a strictly professional partnership. Your call.
7. The phone becomes an object
No more interface slapped on the screen: the phone is a physical object held in hand. A staging choice that says plenty about the immersion ambition.
8. Stealing a car takes skill
Vehicles have different security levels, each demanding the right tool. The WAINK app lets you scan a car before you touch it — so you know what you are getting into.
9. You can kill no one
Non-lethal combat is on the table: aim for limbs, disarm with a shot to the hand. Combined with the criminal profile, that opens up a genuine playstyle.
10. Heists on your terms
Solo or as a duo, with a constant trade-off between speed and maximum take. The pair unlocks approaches a lone protagonist would never have.
11. Your body reacts to what you do to it
Diet and exercise visibly reshape your character's build. Barber for the hair, wardrobe at home for the outfits.
12. Living safehouses
Safehouses work like Red Dead 2's camps: places where NPCs live their lives, not save points in disguise.
13. Wildlife worth cataloguing
More than 30 species — alligators, sharks, dolphins, manatees, rays, panthers, deer, Florida birds — observable and logged in tracking journals.
14. 150+ vehicles at launch
The tally: 59 cars, 22 SUVs and pickups, 15 bikes and quads, 19 boats, 8 helicopters, 4 planes. Water is clearly not just scenery this time around.
15. No first-person view
The most divisive point: FPS view will not be there at launch. It was added to GTA 5 in 2014 on the re-releases; nothing rules out a later arrival, but it will not be on November 19.
What about the tech?
Preview impressions mention 30 frames per second on PS5. Rockstar has not confirmed it officially — so we file that under "likely" on our hub, not confirmed.
Everything is cross-checked and sorted by status on the GTA 6 hub, and the line-by-line comparison with GTA 5 lives in our comparison tool. Less than ten weeks left: the countdown is running.
